Testimonial, West Hampstead
Like most people I’m living a very active – and probably overly stressful – life. I have an intense and demanding job and was diagnosed with a slipped disc last winter, and to handle that as well as possible I’m making conscious efforts to stay healthy both physically and mentally. While the physical piece has been quite easy to manage by getting some regular exercise, I found it a lot more difficult to find peace of mind. Even though my body was exhausted, my mind was still active, and I continued to struggle with insomnia. Since I was already doing several high intensity classes a week at My Fitness Boutique in West Hampstead, I decided to try out the Saturday morning Yoga class, thinking it potentially could be the missing piece in my health puzzle.
There were a few different teachers covering the class initially, and while I thought it was time well spent, I wasn’t feeling overly attached or mentally engaged. At that point in time it was in a way just another class.
A couple of months in Sam started teaching the class regularly, and I quickly felt that she made me feel more connected, dedicated and loyal in terms of attending the class, and I started understanding how important it is to have a teacher that talks and acts in a way that makes you feel engaged and truly present.
Something that Sam has massively helped me with is to connect mind and body, and I have really started to benefit from the focus that she enables me to find.
How her classes differ
At the beginning of each class she is encouraging us to concentrate on what we would like to work on during the class, and how we ideally would like to feel when we’re coming out of it.
How I feel after class
I have never really thought that meditation has worked for me, but to focus on a goal like we’re doing in Sam’s class is definitely to mentally train yourself to feel stronger in every aspect. Regardless of how I feel when I am waking up on a Saturday morning, I know that I will have myself sorted out by 10.15 when we’re finishing the practice.
Integrating Samantha's class in my day to day
I have actually started using the same thought patterns that Sam is encouraging in other situations as well; tricky situations at work, conflict management in my personal life or when I’m doing a really tough class in the gym and want to keep myself from giving up.
I don’t think I’m the only one who has dreamt of finding more peace on the inside, and for anyone who does I would definitely recommend Sam’s class. It’s one of my favourite hours of the week, and I wish I could start every day like I start my Saturdays
